Schöller Senior Fellow Prof. Dr. Jan Marco Leimeister (with W. L. Currie et al.) published an editiorial in the Journal of Information Technology.
The editorial “Rethinking Technology Regulation in the Age of AI Risks” argues that traditional regulatory paradigms are ill-equipped to address the unique challenges posed by artificial intelligence, such as opacity, autonomy, and systemic risk. It proposes a tripartite risk framework and highlights the need for adaptive, technology-specific governance that balances innovation with accountability, drawing on comparative analysis of regulatory approaches in regions including the EU, US, UK, and China. The authors call for interdisciplinary research to inform anticipatory and ethically grounded AI regulation.
